The Gospel
Every week, as God wills, my wife, my son and myself preach the Gospel on the
streets of Manchester.
It is a always a battle as so few actually repent and believe. Mockers often
comment, "No one's listening, mate!" (Sadly this often includes others who
claim to be "Born again" believers).
We carry on regardless firmly convinced that, "it is the power of God unto
salvation to every one that believeth..." and that "it pleased God by the
foolishness of preaching to save them that believe."

Wonderful privilege to hear Don Fortner viva voce for the first time and to
press hands with him. There will, I feel sure, be a great outcome of benefit
for believers resulting from his visit to the UK. Christ is magnified, the

Book recommendations
Good afternoon Ian and Rachel, Thank you for your work with this website, it is
very useful. Having read the biography of William Gadsby I would highly
recommend this book, we really need to pray that God would raise up preachers
like him in these apostate days. Also, John Metcalfe's book - Noah and the
Flood - was a real blessing as well as another book he has written - The
Messiah, he writes with a certain authority which is most edifying. May the
Lord continue to bless your labours to His glory.

Hello to a former colleague.
Hello Rachel, May I say it was lovely to find your web site and to read about
your life in Devon. Your sons look absolutely gorgeous. Am I right that you
have been married seven years this month? We have been to Honiton a number of
times as it is a convenient town in which to stop whilst driving west. We did
so when we stayed at the Manor House hotel near Okehampton and more recently
when we were going to and from Dartmouth when Adam was at the Royal Naval
College there. You may know that I was the first person to be made redundant
from Book Data and that since January 2003 I have been the Cataloguer at
Richmond Public Libraries, firstly full time and since this September I work
three days a week. Martha graduated from Durham University last year with a
degree in Theology but hasn't decided what she is going to do with her life and
at present is working for a web hosting company near Heathrow Airport so she's
back home with us. Hope this isn't too much for your guest book, feel free to

Thanks for a very informative site full of good spiritual articles and links
and recommendations to other sites with more of the same. I have used your site
many times to direct me to Godly preachers material from past and present, like
Huntington, Gadsby, Philpot & Kershaw whom I would otherwise have been
unaware of. I was glad to see that you recommended books by John Metcalfe. I
can testify to the impact that his written and broadcast ministry (on tape) has
had on my life. He is a true minister of the gospel who seems to get very
little recognition. I wonder if you could tell me how to obtain taped sermons
of Don Fortner and H Mahan in this country. Do you download their sermons from
the net? If so could you give me any tips or advice of how to go about this.
Wish we lived nearer to you so that we could attend your meetings. May the Lord

Purpose Driven Life
Our Church has just run a campaign, in which over 200 hundred people took part
in studying a book by an America pastor by the name of Rick Warne. It is called
Purpose Driven Life and talks of Gods five purposes in life for us. There are
40 chapters and we all read a chapter a day for 40 days. We have just had a
celebration on completing the 40 days, and I pleased to say that a number of
people as a result of this campaign, have accepted Jesus into there lives.

Your answer is from the NIV. the NIV is wrong. the answer is closer to 13 feet.
the people who wrote the NIV had to make sure that every verse in their version
would be different from the New or Old KingJames so that they could copywrite
it (own it). I'm not sure if that influenced their description of Goliath, but
it makes one consider the possibility. Thanks, and God Bless!
Ian's Reply: Thanks for the comments regarding the question in the Quiz. You may
well be right that Goliath was 13 feet high but a lot depends on our modern
knowledge of how long a cubit is. According to the following website a cubit is
between 0.45 and 0.5m:-

In feet that would make the 6 and a half cubit height of Goliath (as stated in
the KJV) as being around 10 feet. I may be wrong in my conversion as it
obviously depends upon the modern estimation of the length of the ancient
measure of a cubit, but I did quote the KJV in my answer in the quiz where it
states that Goliath was 6 and a half cubits tall, and I can assure you that I
didn?t refer to the NIV in order to find the conversion figure of 10 feet!

Excellent website
A very interesting and edifying website. I have not looked at all the articles
yet, but having read some of William Huntington's work previously, I am very
pleased to see some of his work on this site. "The Excellecies of the Bible" by
him is so true, so encouraging, comes with authority - yet at the same time,is
so simple and direct. Not much written today comes anywhere near such writings

Need help from any on new and used Bibles, books, tracts
We appreciate your work, and at age 70 I am not too good in writing things, but
we have, I believe, had a bookstore and bought through many in the past for the
less expensive bibles, books (mostly about Jesus, Rapture, teachings about
bible) and tracts largely about false religions and cults. We were able to give
52 new Bibles to women last week (35 KJV) 10 Contemprary English Version for
women, and 7 Spanish) and we give used clothes to poor for babies and kids,
free, and try to get them interested in last days. I also am looking for tracts
you may know or have or small books on the basic topics we need to keep on hand
in our bookstores - on subjects about Roman Catholicism, Islam, Hinduism,
Mormonism, Unity, Bahai, TM, Human Undertanding by Roy Masters (big in our
City), Christian Science, JWs, (four this week) Buddism, Krisna, Adventist on
White (also big in our City who says you will go to hell because you don't go
to church on Saturday), New Age, Witchcraft, Freemasonry, World Religion,
Scientology and Psychology. (one came to my home yesterday) We have had a
bookstore for 10 years - we give Bibles to any one desiring (usually poor women
but some men) and send Bibles to 81 Countries (used and new) (gave 52 new last
week) for new and used bibles - We have Morning Worship for high school kids
from 6-7 AM and some others see the drunks or even worse on Fridays and/or
Saturdays around midnights and we can use whatever we can get (bibles, books,
tracts) in these End Days. In my ministry, I work six days a week to help by
meeting with the poor women mostly, with the old men and women, with the sick
and ill, and with those in families with one or more in jail. All the time, we
face the problems with false religions - on issues such as above. So, we also
seek bibles, books (mostly about Jesus, and End Days and Mercy) and tracts on
false religions - so much in our County and City - on false churches, and world
religions - so send any information you have which we need and can use as Jesus
would like us to do it. At age 70, I never have too much money to send, but
love in my heart. I need to have tracts about improper religions and concerning
people to know what Jesus makes available - we give or sell good things away in
our store. So much today on Islam, Israel and Rapture. Lee Holley Treasures

would be interested to know, if you don't mind. Are you attending a sovereign
grace Church in Devon or do you show the vidoes because there is not such a
Church? (That's why we did it, until we found a new gospel centred Baptist
Church to attend an hour away from our home!) When we first attended this
Church (Smithfield NSW) we were under the preaching of Pastor Andrew Davies who
is now at the Kensit Evangelical Church in Finchley, London. Andrew's
replacment was another sovereign grace preacher. It is wonderful that God has
given us faithful Pastors such as Don and Henry, men committed to Christ,
committed to the Gospel and committed to the Glory of God. May The Lord Bless
the work you are doing in His service.
